Congratulations on taking up the Journey 2 Milfhood’s 6-Week Weight Loss Challenge!  By signing-up you’re acknowledging that #1 you could use a little weight loss and #2 you want to be healthy and fit…or maybe just look extra gorgeous in your suit this summer?!  Whatever the reason, you've made an excellent but not an easy choice.  Let’s face it, exercise is hard and weight loss is definitely challenging!  If it wasn't, we wouldn't have an obesity epidemic in this country.

Thanks to Alexis, I’m here to help!  Who am I?  I’m a fitness professional, certified trainer and instructor who had been in the biz for over 10 years.  I’m also a mom to 4 year-old twin boys who go non-stop so I know how challenging it can be to fit in a workout or eat healthy.  The trick is to make it a priority and keep your eyes on the weight-loss prize – whatever that is for you; a number on the scale, a race goal, feeling better, looking better, having more energy – the possibilities (and benefits) are endless!

Here are 6 tips (one for each week of the challenge!) to help you stay the course:

 1.  MAKE SMALL CHANGES: You will see big results from making a few small changes.  The “rules” of this challenge outline some perfect ones: drink only water, exercise 30 minutes a day and limit fast food to once per week.  Follow those and you’ll be off to a great start!
 2.  FIND EXERCISE YOU LIKE TO DO: I know that may sound like an oxymoron but you may surprise yourself if you try a variety of classes or workouts.  One question I’m asked most as a personal trainer is “what’s the best exercise to loose weight?”  The answer is the one that you will DO!  Just move for 30 minutes or more a day (as outlined in the rules!) and you will feel better, eat better and have more energy!

3.  MAKE EXERCISE A PRIORITY:  Just like anything else, you have to find the time to sweat – especially if you’re a busy mom or dad.  Find a gym with a daycare or swap childcare with a friend for fitness time and then return the favor!  Getting up early is always a good option but may also be a least favorite one.

 4.  EAT OFF YOUR KIDS PLATE: I’m sure you've heard (as I have) many moms lament “It’s not helping my weight loss to constantly be eating off my kid’s plate”.  Why is your kid eating so much junk?  You should be able to eat off your kid’s plate without worry.  If they’re older and are already used to eating a lot of high sugar or high salt foods you should try to wean them off now.  It won’t be easy but neither is childhood obesity.  If they’re young and not eating healthy then start slow with a few fruits and vegetables. The entire family will benefit!

 5.  SET ATTAINABLE GOALS:  Be honest with yourself about how much you can take on.  Men and especially women play so many different and important roles that we often don’t take the time we need to care for ourselves, however, there’s no negotiating around certain responsibilities.  Don’t set yourself up to fail!  If you’re new to exercise or are coming off maternity leave just set small daily or weekly goals.  It always helps to write these down! Get some post-it notes and write motivational messages and then post them where they can be seen – bathroom mirrors, refrigerators, etc.  These will serve as “gentle” reminders to spend some time kicking your own butt.

6.  REWARD YOURSELF: This is ultimately why we all do what we do.  Whether it’s to live a better, longer, healthier life or to have more ice cream – it’s all about the reward!  When it comes to fitness, try to make the rewards non-food based like new workout clothes or that handbag you've been eyeing.  I recently read an incentive plan that Olympic medalist runner Kara Goucher suggested:  Give yourself a dollar for every mile you run (or hour you spend at the gym!) and then buy yourself something each month with the money you've saved.  Now get out there and start making some money!
GOOD LUCK to everyone on your 6 week journey!  Hopefully it will last for much more then that.

I’d love to hear feedback, your exercise updates or have you visit me on my blog at

GIVEAWAY: Flat Panel SANUS TV Vuepoint Mount F180!!!!

Why Mount Your TV?

"For many Americans, a flat panel TV is a great way to enjoy family time and entertainment.  However, most parents are unaware of the safety risks that flat panel TVs pose for kids.  Due to increasing size and new ultra thin designs, today’s flat panel TVs can easily tip over when bumped or pulled, toppling off of furniture and causing injury or even death.
Bringing this risk to the forefront, SANUS, the leading designer and manufacturer of flat panel TV wall mounts, has partnered with Safe Kids Worldwide.  By educating consumers on the risk of unsecured flat panel TV’s, SANUS and Safe Kids Worldwide offer safe solutions for families across the nation by reducing TV tip-over related injuries and fatalities.
A 2011 US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) report on flat panel TV safety revealed:
·         A child is killed every three weeks from an unsecured TV
·         Every 45 minutes a child visits an emergency room due to a TV tip-over related injury
·         Between 2000 and 2011, 215 fatalities have resulted from TV tip-over
·         An estimated 17,000 people each year, the majority of which are children, are treated for injuries from TV tip-overs
·         Reported cases have increased almost 25% from 2006  to 2010, and over the last 10 years, injuries have increased by 31%

Easy 1, 2, 3 installation with a wall template to ensure even placement

Hello, Summer!

Yesterday marked the first swim day of the season for Md and me!

My family gathered at my grandpa and grandma's house to enjoy a day of swimming and pizza.

It was really nice to see everyone together, especially the kids, even though they tend to pick on each other and argue/ fight's still a good time.

Our family has been cursed blessed with mostly boys, so the shenanigans should be expected, right? ;)

I can't wait to see what they are like when they grow up...

In my family, it's basically mandatory that you know how to swim, and LOVE it!

We put the little ones in the pool as soon as possible and usually have them swimming by 3 or 4 at the latest. My sister was even jumping off of high dives by age 4--thank gawd, Md isn't that brave! I'd have a heart attack lol.

Swimming with my family always brings back great memories! Underwater contests, handstand contests, races, shark, Marco polo, water volleyball, etc...

I swear there were summers that we practically lived in the pool...

And after seeing how well Md slept after a good swim...

I now understand that there were perhaps ulterior motives for our parents love of the pool.

But anyways, it was a nice day and a much needed break for Md & me...

How is your summer going so far?

How old were you when you learned to swim?

I'd love to hear from you! :)

Thank you for reading!

A Nice Weekend...

Another weekend is coming to an end, and while I typically look forward to Mondays...I wish this weekend could have lasted a little longer.

Friday the painting in the living room and kitchen got finished, and I spent a decent night at home with loved ones :) my brother turned 23!

Joyeux anniversaire, Garrette!

Saturday was my grandmother's birthday (although she is no longer with us), and me and Md visited my dad near Chicago, went to the park, and had lunch with him.

It was a BEAUTIFUL day and I really enjoyed spending time with them.

I was also able to get some good shots of Md! (pics below)

Sunday (today), is my baby sister's birthday! She is 16!!! Man does time fly...I remember her being born like it was yesterday. Which makes me feel quite old :( lol

Joyeux anniversaire, ma belle Panda!

This morning we ran some errands, had a little cookout this afternoon and now we are simply hanging out, talking and reminiscing. Later on my sister will blow out her candles and we'll call it a day...

*Le Sigh*

Time spent with family and friends goes by too quickly...and never truly feels like enough.
I cherish every moment I have with them, and hope that you do the same with your family and friends, because life is short and time flies!

Thank you, for reading! I hope you all had a lovely weekend!

Park, Kid, Playing, Active, Healthy kids,

Goodbye, LaSalle!

The past couple of weeks have been chaotic to say the least.

However, we are officially out of LaSalle and into a new place, and I LOVE it!

Not only are we closer to family (which I'm sure will have its positives and negatives), we are closer to friends and better employment opportunities! WOOHOO!!! ;)

There is also a great walking path within a few feet of our front door that Maddox loves to ride his bike on! And I'm hoping to start some morning/evening walks when things settle down a little.

Motherhood, bike, Maddox, parenting, love

The only things that I will miss about living in LaSalle will be living near Starved Rock, Maddox's daycare, and the mom & pop restaurants that you won't find anywhere else (which might end up being a good thing lol).

I did meet some amazing people living in the sticks and things were ok while it lasted... but since day one I have wanted to move back to the suburbs. I'm a city gal and need to be at least a train ride away from Chicago.

But anyways...

Just wanted to let you all know that I didn't disappear...I was just without internet until today thanks to the move... so don't worry... I'M BACK! ;)

Hope you all are doing well!
