2 Months Old!

Leo is officially 2 months old (as of Jan. 13th)! I can't believe how fast time is going by. He has been a pretty happy baby thus far. Smiley, makes cute baby noises (not the ones from his ass), loves cuddles and being held, eats a ton.

I feel extremely lucky that I have been able to be home with him for these past two months in a country that doesn't believe in paid maternity leave. But if I can be entirely honest, and I can, I'm ready to go back to work and school. Being a mom is absolutely amazing! But I also love being a teacher and a student. Fortunately, in 2018 women can have it all.

Motherhood, work, school...you can do it! ((*with support*))

I start back to work soon and grad classes resume tomorrow evening! I'm excited to get back into the swing of things. While I'm at work or school, Leo will be with a family member which I am so beyond thankful for. I'm praying that we can avoid daycare until he's a little bit older and has a stronger immune system.

When I had Md, I wasn't so lucky. Daycare wasn't optional.

How long did you get to stay home with your little ones? How did you feel about returning to work?

Easy BBQ Crockpot Chicken!

Made this tonight and the family really enjoyed it! :) Easy to make! 10 minutes (or less) of prep time!

2lbs of boneless/skinless chicken breasts
1 1/2 cups of BBQ sauce (I used Sweet Baby Rays)
2 tablespoons of brown sugar
1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
Garlic salt

Turn the crockpot to HIGH.
1. Lightly sprinkle garlic salt over the chicken breasts and place them in the crockpot.
2. Mix the other ingredients in a bowl and pour over the chicken.
Let this cook for 3 hours and 30mins.
3. Shred the chicken with a fork and stir.
Let this cook for another 10 mins.

Ready to serve! Perfect on rolls, or by itself! Tonight we paired this with twiced baked potatoes and it was absolutely delicious! I'm even considering making BBQ nachos with it!

What is your go to crockpot meal?

New Mom Life...Again...

In January of 2009, I gave birth to my first child. Admittedly, I must have blocked out all of the wonderful early joys of motherhood, ya know like the lack of sleep, getting peed and pooped on, smelling like milk, not showering when you want to, always having to eat when your food is cold,  etc.

Leo @ 7 weeks
It has been a little challenging getting use to having a new baby. I have an 8 year old. An 8 year old that can wipe his own ass, shower, use the microwave, read, clean, and tell me his needs and wants.

I started over. Completely.

While I adore little Leo to death, he is...well...challenging. Going from 1 kid to 2 hasn't been easy, but we are getting to know each other well, and adjusting as a family.

Some positives about having done this rodeo before are:
  • I don't panic over every little thing.
  • I'm not afraid to handle him. My first little guy was so little that I was terrified that I'd break him somehow.
  • I have the perfect swaddle down!
  • His crying cues are easier to interpret.
  • I'm much more skilled in the art of multi-tasking.
  • Breastfeeding has been a lot easier (after he finally latched!)
  • & I know that everything will be ok, even when it feels like it won't.
The more I think about wanting more children, the crazier I think that I must be. lol

Isn't it amazing how just a smile or coo from our little ones can make us forget that they just shit on us perhaps hours before the adorableness?

Being a mom is wonderful. Motherhood is indescribable love. patience. and selflessness. And for those that do this more than once? It's insanity and a touch of amnesia. 😉
